Apathy Can Take Lives
By Janette Stuhr
Millions suffering in pain
While even more gorge on food,
Those without a home,
While many live thoroughly prude.
High mortgages and mansions,
We need more to ease the pain,
These feelings of inferiority
Will drive a man insane.
Don't we have enough?
Or do we dare find more?
Greed slowly creepy in
and knocking on your door.
People wait in darkness
Waiting for a light.
To help them end their suffering,
to make it through the night.
Some complain about comfort
Some complain about fashion,
Many complain about waiting in line,
Where is the true compassion?
Who are we to make a peep?
When those who suffer are scarred with fears,
Rape, torture, and torment,
Nothing but cries of terror and tears.
Enjoyment is pleasing through and through,
When our window isn't shattered,
I know it's devastating, but what can I do?
As if your ship was never tattered.
Open the shades of darkness and see the truth outside,
Make an effort this time for something great,
and start by reflecting inside.
